The rather sillyly (is that a word?) named Envy & Other Sins have won the first series of T4’s mobileAct unsigned. The Birmingham-based band beat Lily Allen’s favourites, Revenue to walk away with an amazing record deal from Polydor’s A&M Records.
Envy & Other Sins were announced winners after an online public vote deemed them the best unsigned band in Britain who write and perform their own material. Really, Hijak Oskar should probably have won, but they were ousted by the judges the week before, along with The Bad Robots, who also probably deserved a place in the final more than the two who were actually in it.
Anyway, digression aside, the whole thing is a welcome advocation of 'real' music and bands, rather than the manufactured robots that TV usually spews out. Envy & Other Sins will now release their self-penned single, Highness, on 11th February. They'll also be recording a debut album which will see a release in March. Well done them!
